What Is API7 Portal

API7 Portal enables API publishing and consumption. It allows providers to publish APIs for convenient developer subscription and usage. API7 Portal serves as a central hub for API management with tools to build effective API ecosystems.

API7 Portal contains two parts: Provider Portal and Developer Portal.

The core functions of the management site include:

Expose APIs for Developers to Discover

Making APIs discoverable and accessible internally and externally can lead to business growth, partnerships, and better customer experiences. For better API discovery, you should expose your APIs with proper strategies:

  • Public APIs allow external developer access, enabling third-party integration and innovation. They require clear, up-to-date docs with real-world examples to assist developers. Public APIs can also be monetized by charging developers for API calls.

  • Partner APIs enable controlled collaboration and data exchange with specific organizations. Enforce secure authentication/authorization and assign customized quotas per partner. New partner API access requires approval.

  • Private APIs are for internal use only. They enhance internal processes and integration. Private access and rate limiting are required.

Self-served API Subscription

Self-Served API Subscription allows convenient access without direct provider interaction. Developers can:

  1. select from a catalog of available APIs
  2. choose subscription plans
  3. manage their API Keys
  4. track their API usage
  • Convenience: Users can explore and subscribe to APIs at their convenience, 24/7, without the need for human intervention.

  • Faster Access: Instant access to APIs speeds up the development process and time-to-market for applications.

  • Cost-Efficiency: Users can choose subscription plans that align with their needs, optimizing costs.

  • Flexibility: Users have the freedom to manage their API subscriptions, scaling up or down as needed.

API Monetization

API Monetization is a strategy that enables organizations to generate revenue by offering access to their APIs as paid services. It involves designing subscription plans, setting pricing, and creating a seamless payment experience for API consumers.

  • Revenue Generation: API monetization provides a new revenue stream for organizations by capitalizing on their APIs.

  • Incentive for Quality: Charging for API usage encourage API providers to maintain and improve the quality and reliability of their APIs.

  • Scaling Business: Monetized APIs can enable organizations to expand their business by offering valuable data or services to a wider audience.

API Usage Analytics

API Usage Analytics involves tracking and analyzing how APIs are subscribed and used. This includes monitoring metrics such as usage volume, frequency, error rates, and response times at the developer level. It helps organizations gain insights into how their APIs are performing and how they are being utilized by developers and applications.

  • Performance Optimization: API Usage Analytics identifies bottlenecks, errors, and areas for improvement, allowing organizations to optimize API performance.

  • Capacity Planning: By understanding usage patterns, organizations can plan for increased demand and allocate resources effectively.

  • Billing and Monetization: Usage data is crucial for billing customers accurately, especially in usage-based pricing models.

  • User Experience Improvement: Insights from API usage data can lead to enhancements that improve the overall user experience, or specific user experience of your targets.
